Storage hang via multipath partition-scan deadlock
Published Nov 21, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Denial of service in the Linux NVMe multipath driver allows remote attackers to hang storage during multipath partition scanning. The driver starts synchronous partition-scan I/O inside the controller's scan_work context, where a path error waits for recovery work that the same context must perform. The condition requires NVMe multipath and a path error during the scan, and the resulting deadlock interrupts storage I/O.
