CVE-2024-53064

Kernel crash via deinitialized control-queue polling

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated May 11, 2026

NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel idpf driver 6.7 allows local users to crash the kernel during a device control-plane reset. On a mailbox retry after the control plane returns late, idpf_vc_core_init deinitializes the mailbox before canceling its live workqueue, which continues polling the released control queue. Exposure requires an idpf device and a control-plane reboot whose delayed startup causes a virtchnl timeout; the bounded consequence is a kernel crash.
