CVE-2024-52972Network attack vector

Authenticated service crash via unbounded metrics allocation

Published Jan 23, 2025 · Updated Jan 23, 2025

Resource exhaustion in Elastic Kibana 7.0.0 through 7.17.22 and 8.0.0 through 8.14.3 allows remote authenticated users to crash the server. The /api/metrics/snapshot handler allocates resources from a crafted request without enforcing limits or throttling. Reachability requires read access to the Observability Metrics or Logs features, and the reported consequence is a Kibana crash.
