CVE-2024-5293

Root code execution via oversized HTTP Referer

Published May 23, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Stack buffer overflow in prog.cgi in D-Link DIR-2640 firmware 1.11B02_BETA02 and earlier allows attackers to execute code as root. The HNAP handler copies an attacker-controlled HTTP Referer into a fixed-length stack buffer without first validating its length. Exploitation requires only network-adjacent access to the lighttpd service on TCP port 80 or 443; no authentication or user interaction is required.
