Uncontrolled search path handling in D-Link Network Assistant 4.0.0.21 and earlier allows local users to execute code as SYSTEM. The DNACore service loads a file from an unsecured location, allowing attacker-controlled code to run with the service's SYSTEM privileges. The gate is prior low-privileged code execution on the Windows host; successful exploitation grants SYSTEM-level control.
