CVE-2024-52877

Service interruption via variable-name buffer over-read

Published May 15, 2025 · Updated May 19, 2025

Buffer over-read in InsydeH2O firmware allows local users to interrupt service through the VariableRuntimeDxe driver. CreateVariableLockListInSmm uses StrSize to determine a variable name's size, allowing the scan to continue beyond its buffer. The path requires local high-privileged access and high attack complexity; the vendor reports availability-only impact but does not identify hang, crash, or reboot behavior.
