Privilege escalation via unreconciled migration group IDs

Published Jan 8, 2025 · Updated Jan 31, 2025

Privilege escalation in Teradata Database on SLES 15 SP2 allows remote authenticated users to gain system privileges after an SLES 12 migration. The teradata-osmigration package scripts copy users and groups without reconciling SUSE GID changes, assigning some accounts to unintended privileged groups. Code execution as a misassigned account can expose protected files or grant indirect root-level access, with impact determined by the assigned group.
