CVE-2024-52867Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via exposed build outputs

Published Nov 17, 2024 · Updated Nov 20, 2024

Privilege escalation in GNU Guix before 5ab3c4c allows local users to take over a build user via exposed setuid build outputs. The daemon moves failed outputs from the build chroot without sanitizing permissions and exposes successful outputs before canonicalizing metadata. A local user must trigger or encounter a build producing a setuid or setgid executable and win the exposure window; successful use grants the build user's privileges.
