Host-file disclosure via external entity resolution
Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Jan 28, 2026
XXE in Health Level Seven International FHIR IG Publisher before 1.7.4 allows remote attackers to read host files through crafted XML. Multiple XML-processing paths instantiate Java DocumentBuilderFactory directly, leaving external-entity resolution enabled for untrusted input. The affected deployment must accept XML from external clients; successful parsing embeds local host data in generated XML without modifying data or interrupting service.
