Data disclosure via unrestricted policy-file external entities
Published Nov 29, 2024 · Updated Dec 2, 2024
XXE in veraPDF Validation Library 1.26.1 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to disclose data via crafted policy files. ApplicationUtils.mergeEnabledFeaturesFromPolicy creates an XML parser without secure-processing features or external-entity restrictions. Exploitation requires the CLI to process a crafted custom policy file; standard validation is unaffected, and the demonstrated result is an outbound request enabling SSRF or data disclosure.
