Denial of service via unbounded query retries
Published Nov 21, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2025
Denial of service in affected Opencast versions allows remote authenticated users to exhaust disk space via crafted search queries. The external API passes reserved Elasticsearch characters from the q parameter into query syntax, while exception handling retries the same invalid request without stopping at maxRetryAttempts. Default access requires ROLE_ADMIN or ROLE_API_SERIES_VIEW; repeated errors flood logs until disk exhaustion interrupts the service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
