CVE-2024-52791Network attack vector

Service interruption via oversized remote JSON responses

Published Jan 16, 2025 · Updated Feb 12, 2025

Memory exhaustion in Matrix Media Repo before 1.3.8 allows remote attackers to interrupt service through oversized JSON responses. The remote-response JSON parsing path accepts excessively large resource-owner responses and consumes memory without a documented response-size bound. Exploitation requires control of a server that MMR contacts; no authentication or user interaction is required, and the bounded consequence is service interruption.
