Root access via hard-coded device credential
Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 22, 2024
Hard-coded credentials in Tenda W30E v2.0 firmware 16.01.0.8 allow remote authenticated users to obtain root access. The read-only /etc_ro/shadow file embeds the fixed root credential that the device accepts during account authentication. Exploitation requires adjacent network access to a device login service and knowledge of the embedded credential, after which the account grants full control over the router.
