CVE-2024-52788Public exploit

Root login via hard-coded shadow credential

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 22, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Tenda W9 Firmware 1.0.0.7(4456) allow remote authenticated users to log in as root. The firmware stores a fixed root password in /etc_ro/shadow, allowing the same credential to authenticate on affected appliances. Exploitation requires adjacent-network reachability and low-privileged access, after which the attacker obtains full control of the device.
