CVE-2024-5267

Root code execution via unchecked SMB2 message writes

Published Jun 6, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in Sonos Era 100 firmware 15.9 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through crafted SMB2 messages. The SMB2 handler fails to validate user-supplied message data before writing into an allocated buffer, permitting a write beyond its boundary. No authentication or user interaction is required, but the attacker must share the speaker's local network; successful exploitation runs code as root.
