Insufficient source-port randomization in Avahi before 0.9 allows remote attackers to inject forged wide-area DNS responses. The wide-area lookup engine reuses one UDP socket for unicast DNS queries, exposing a stable source port instead of selecting a fresh randomized port. Wide-area DNS must be enabled, and successful spoofing can replace DNS-derived data; .local mDNS traffic is unaffected.
