CVE-2024-52338Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Arbitrary code execution via unsafe R metadata deserialization

Published Nov 28, 2024 · Updated Nov 29, 2024

Deserialization in the Apache Arrow R package 4.0.0 through 16.1.0 allows attackers to execute code through a malicious data file. The R metadata reader passes schema metadata to unserialize() without rejecting promise objects, which execute when the metadata is applied during data-frame conversion. The host application must read attacker-controlled IPC, Feather, or Parquet data and convert it to an R data frame.
