CVE-2024-52336Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via unchecked script paths

Published Nov 26, 2024 · Updated Jun 26, 2026

Local privilege escalation in Red Hat TuneD 2.23.0 through 2.24.0 allows local users to execute arbitrary scripts as root via D-Bus. instance_create stores attacker-controlled script_pre and script_post paths unmodified, and the vulnerable check accepts every absolute path. A locally logged-in, non-privileged user can supply an executable under that user's control, gaining root-level code execution without further Polkit authentication.
