CVE-2024-52308Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Code execution via unvalidated SSH username

Published Nov 14, 2024 · Updated Nov 15, 2024

Command injection in GitHub CLI 2.61.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code when a user connects to a malicious Codespace. The gh codespace ssh and gh codespace logs paths pass the remote SSH username into ssh without rejecting option-like values, so a username beginning with -oProxyCommand supplies an attacker-controlled command. Exploitation requires a user to invoke one of those commands against a malicious third-party devcontainer, and the command runs on the user's workstation.
