CVE-2024-5227

Root code execution via unsanitized PPTP username

Published May 23, 2024 · Updated Sep 3, 2024

Command injection in TP-Link Omada ER605 firmware 2.6_2.2.2 Build 20231017 allows remote attackers on the adjacent network to execute code as root. The /usr/bin/pppd endpoint passes the supplied PPTP username to a system call without properly validating command-special characters. Exploitation requires PPTP VPN with LDAP authentication to be configured, but no prior authentication is required and successful commands run with root privileges.
