Authenticated OS command execution via wan_gateway injection
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
OS command injection in NETGEAR R8500 Firmware 1.0.2.160 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary OS commands. The genie_fix2.cgi handler passes the wan_gateway parameter into an OS command without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Access requires low privileges from an adjacent network; successful exploitation executes commands with the router service's authority.
