Authenticated command execution via system_name injection
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
Command injection in NETGEAR XR300 firmware 1.0.3.78 allows remote authenticated users to execute OS commands via genie_dyn.cgi. The genie_dyn.cgi handler accepts system_name from a crafted request without neutralizing shell metacharacters before command execution. Reachability requires low-privilege access from an adjacent network, and exploitation grants command execution on the router.
