Router crash via unchecked PPTP IP copy
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
Stack overflow in NETGEAR router firmware allows adjacent authenticated attackers to crash the router through a crafted wiz_pptp.cgi POST request. The CGI handler copies the untrusted pptp_user_ip value into a fixed-size stack buffer without checking whether the input fits. The affected builds are R8500 1.0.2.160, XR300 1.0.3.78, R7000P 1.3.3.154, and R6400v2 1.0.4.128; exploitation requires low privileges and local-network proximity.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
