CVE-2024-51996Network attack vector

Account impersonation via mismatched persisted cookie owner

Published Nov 13, 2024 · Updated Nov 13, 2024

Authentication bypass in affected Symfony Security-Http releases allows remote attackers to access a different account through a persisted cookie. PersistentRememberMeHandler validates the cookie series and token value but fails to compare the submitted identity and class with the stored token owner. Exploitation requires persistent authentication tokens and possession of a valid token series and value; resulting access is bounded by the permissions assigned to the impersonated account.
