CVE-2024-51756Network attack vector

Device access via incomplete Windows filename denylist

Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 6, 2024

Path traversal in Bytecode Alliance cap-std before 3.4.1 allows remote authenticated users to access Windows device resources. The Windows open_impl path filter uppercases the file stem, but its denylist omitted COM and LPT aliases containing superscript digits. A consuming application must pass an untrusted path into the sandbox; successful access can reach serial, parallel, USB-emulated, or mapped network devices.
