CVE-2024-51750Network attack vector

Rendering interruption via uncaught invalid timestamps

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 12, 2024

Uncaught exceptions in Element Web before 1.11.85 allow malicious homeservers to interrupt message and room rendering. The DateSeparator component formats an event-supplied timestamp without catching invalid-date exceptions, so one malformed event aborts rendering. The attacker must control a federating homeserver; the consequence is limited to unrenderable messages or rooms in affected Web and Desktop clients.
