Arbitrary file write in MarkUs before 2.4.8 allows remote authenticated users with instructor access to write outside intended directories. The AutomatedTestsController and StarterFileGroupsController join untrusted path or filename parameters to writable base directories and pass the results to File.write without checking containment. Instructor credentials or an instructor API key are required, and Ruby written into config/initializers executes only after the Rails service restarts.
