CVE-2024-5171Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Heap buffer overflow via wrapped image allocation arithmetic

Published Jun 5, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025

Integer overflow in Alliance for Open Media libaom before 3.9.0 allows remote attackers to corrupt heap memory via crafted image dimensions. img_alloc_helper computes aligned dimensions, byte strides, buffer sizes, and plane offsets without rejecting values that wrap unsigned arithmetic. An application must pass attacker-controlled width, height, or alignment values through the public image-allocation APIs; later image access can crash the process or execute arbitrary code.
