CVE-2024-51565

Host-process memory disclosure via unchecked HDA index

Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in FreeBSD bhyve allows guest OS users to disclose host-process memory through a crafted HDA command. The hda_codec_command function extracts a guest-controlled payload from the command and uses it as an array index without validation. Exposure requires an HDA device assigned to a malicious guest, and the consequence is limited to disclosure of memory within the bhyve process.
