Host memory disclosure and interruption via descriptor race
Published Nov 12, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
A TOCTOU race in FreeBSD bhyve's virtio device model allows guest OS users to read process memory or interrupt the host. virtio_vq_recordon reads a guest-controlled descriptor length twice, allowing the guest to change it between address translation and iovec length assignment. A malicious guest must have a virtio device; affected releases are 13.3-RELEASE before p8, 13.4-RELEASE before p2, and 14.1-RELEASE before p6.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
