CVE-2024-51021

Authenticated command execution via unsanitized WAN gateway

Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024

Command injection in NETGEAR XR300 1.0.3.78, R7000P 1.3.3.154, and R6400 v2 1.0.4.128 allows remote authenticated users to run OS commands. The genie_fix2.cgi handler incorporates the attacker-controlled wan_gateway parameter into an operating-system command without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Exploitation requires adjacent-network access and low privileges, and successful requests execute commands with the router firmware's CGI process permissions.
