Router crash via unchecked PPPoE mask copy
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
Stack overflow in NETGEAR R7000P firmware 1.3.3.154 allows remote authenticated users to crash the router through pppoe.cgi. The CGI handler copies an oversized pppoe_localnetmask value into a fixed-size stack buffer without enforcing its capacity. Access requires the adjacent network and router-management privileges; a crafted POST request interrupts routing availability.
