Router crash via OpenVPN parameter stack overflow
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
Stack overflow in openvpn.cgi in NETGEAR R8500 Firmware 1.0.2.160 allows remote authenticated users to crash the router via a crafted POST request. The handler accepts openvpn_service_port and openvpn_service_port_tun values into stack storage without enforcing destination bounds. Reachability requires low privileges from an adjacent network, and exploitation interrupts router service without reported data disclosure or modification.
