Authenticated router crash via unchecked IPv6 input
Published Nov 5, 2024 · Updated Nov 5, 2024
Stack overflow in ipv6_fix.cgi in NETGEAR R8500 Firmware 1.0.2.160 allows remote authenticated users to crash the router via crafted POST data. The CGI handler copies ipv6_wan_ipaddr, ipv6_lan_ipaddr, ipv6_wan_length, and ipv6_lan_length values into stack buffers without checking their lengths. Reachability requires low-privileged access from an adjacent network, and successful exploitation interrupts router availability without reported data exposure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
