Root command execution via Nmap target injection
Published Apr 15, 2025 · Updated Apr 18, 2025
Command injection in the Nmap diagnostic tool in Extron SMP and SME appliances allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The administrative console passes an attacker-controlled Nmap target to an operating-system shell without neutralizing shell metacharacters, so a crafted target appends arbitrary commands. Administrative web-console credentials are required, and successful exploitation provides full control of the appliance operating system.
