End-device communication loss via forged device-type update
Published Dec 10, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Insecure permissions in Silicon Labs Z-Wave Series 700 and 800 SDK 7.21.1 and earlier allow physically proximate attackers to interrupt service. The controller accepts a crafted Z-Wave packet that changes an end device type in controller memory, so subsequent communication with that device fails. Exploitation requires radio proximity of about 40 to 100 meters and leaves the end device enrolled but unreachable through the controller.
