Fake-node insertion via malformed controller packets
Published Dec 10, 2024 · Updated Dec 11, 2024
Insecure permissions in Silicon Labs Z-Wave Series 700 and 800 SDK 7.21.1 and earlier allow attackers to add a fake node via crafted packets. The controller accepts malformed Z-Wave packets and records an unauthorized node in controller memory without enforcing node-addition permissions. Exploitation requires adjacent Z-Wave radio access but no authentication or user interaction; the demonstrated consequence is unauthorized modification of the controller's node inventory.
