Authenticated command execution via trailing-dot upload bypass
Published Nov 18, 2024 · Updated Nov 19, 2024
Arbitrary file upload in JPress 5.1.1 and earlier on Windows allows remote authenticated users to execute commands via a crafted JSP filename. The doUplaodRootFile handler passes a trailing-dot filename to AttachmentUtils.isUnsafe, whose suffix blacklist accepts it before Windows strips the final dot. Administrative access to the root attachment uploader is required; a JSP placed in the Tomcat root executes commands with the service account's rights.
