Unauthenticated code execution via unchecked MQTT topics
Published Jan 24, 2025 · Updated Feb 5, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Sungrow WiNet-S WINET-SV200.001.00.P027 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute code via MQTT. The MQTT parser copies topic data into a stack buffer without checking topic bounds, so an oversized topic overwrites adjacent stack memory. An unauthenticated network attacker can trigger remote code execution or crash the WiNet-S device by sending a crafted MQTT message.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
