Arbitrary file upload via unrestricted avatar handler
Published Nov 15, 2024 · Updated Dec 3, 2024
Unrestricted file upload in python_book 1.0 allows remote attackers to store arbitrary files through the user avatar update endpoint. The /api/myapp/index/user/update handler accepts an XML avatar with application/octet-stream content instead of restricting uploads to image types. CISA treats the endpoint as unauthenticated with no user interaction, while the published demonstration establishes file upload rather than server-side execution.
