Authenticated privilege escalation via empty JWT key
Published Nov 8, 2024 · Updated Nov 13, 2024
JWT authentication weakness in sbondCo Watcharr 1.43.0 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to gain administrator privileges. The API authorization path accepts an HS256 token signed with an empty key, allowing the userId claim to be changed before calling the user-permissions endpoint. Valid account credentials are required to obtain a token; successful exploitation grants full administrative permissions and access to authenticated functions.
