Application crash via unchecked Vorbis encoder errors
Published Oct 27, 2024 · Updated Oct 30, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in libsndfile 1.2.2 and earlier allows context-dependent attackers to crash audio-processing applications. The Ogg/Vorbis write path ignores error returns from vorbis_analysis_wrote and related encoder operations, then continues using an invalid encoder state. Exploitation requires a consuming application to convert attacker-controlled audio to Ogg Vorbis, resulting in a process-terminating invalid memory read.
