CVE-2024-5042Network attack vector

Cross-node compromise via unrestricted RBAC deletion permissions

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2026

Excessive RBAC permissions in Submariner Operator allow privileged attackers to compromise additional Kubernetes nodes. The Helm chart's operator ClusterRole and Role grant delete access to ClusterRoles, ClusterRoleBindings, and ServiceAccounts without restricting resource names. Exploitation requires an attacker already able to run a privileged malicious container; stealing the route-agent service-account token can extend compromise to other nodes or the cluster.
