CVE-2024-50301Public exploit

Kernel memory disclosure via misclassified keyring shortcut

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel keyring code allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the system through crafted keys. search_nested_keyrings misclassifies a root-node shortcut pointer as a keyring because its subtype bits overlap, and key_task_permission then reads beyond the slab object. Reaching the flaw requires more than 32 similarly hashed keys, a reboot, and local low-privilege access; the bounded consequences are kernel-memory disclosure and a system crash.
