CVE-2024-50299Network attack vector

Kernel crash via truncated SCTP chunk header

Published Nov 19, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper chunk-size validation in the Linux kernel allows remote attackers to crash the kernel with malformed SCTP packets. In sctp_sf_ootb, the packet walker treats one to three trailing bytes as another chunk header and reads up to two bytes beyond the packet buffer. Any host able to route SCTP traffic can reach the path without a listening socket or association; the out-of-bounds bytes are not returned to the attacker.
