Local data corruption and disclosure via unaligned unshare
Published Nov 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Data corruption and disclosure in Linux fsdax allow local users to expose stale pmem or overwrite file data through an unaligned unshare. dax_unshare_iter uses a page-start pointer with an unaligned iterator and copies only part of the destination block, misplacing data and leaving stale bytes. A writable XFS DAX file with shared blocks is required; the operation can disclose freed-block contents, corrupt files, or force filesystem shutdown.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
