CVE-2024-50249

System crash via mismatched CPPC lock types

Published Nov 9, 2024 · Updated May 23, 2026

Denial of service in Linux kernel ACPI CPPC code in affected releases allows local users to trigger a kernel BUG. The cpc_write function acquires rmw_lock as a regular spinlock while sugov_update_shared already holds raw spinlocks, violating the required wait-type order. Local low-privileged access and an ACPI CPPC fast-switch path are required; affected configurations can panic or otherwise interrupt service.
