CVE-2024-50230

Service interruption via stale NILFS2 checked flag

Published Nov 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in Linux kernel NILFS2 allows local users to trigger a kernel bug through directory operations on a corrupted filesystem. The NILFS2 page-discard routine leaves a page or folio's checked flag set, so reloading it skips directory-entry sanity checks before block-write preparation. Reachability requires local interaction after filesystem corruption forces read-only mode, and the resulting BUG_ON can interrupt the system.
