CVE-2024-50222

Local process hang via page-boundary overrun

Published Nov 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows local users to hang a write process through a tmpfs file write under a special configuration. With forced local mappings enabled, copy_page_from_iter_atomic() fails to limit non-high-memory copies to the current page boundary. Reaching the hang requires x86_32 with high memory, CONFIG_DEBUG_KMAP_LOCAL_FORCE_MAP enabled, and huge=always tmpfs; the observed consequence is an interruptible process hang.
