CVE-2024-5022Public exploit

Address spoofing via hidden file URL scheme

Published May 17, 2024 · Updated Oct 28, 2024

Address-bar spoofing in Mozilla Firefox Focus before 126 allows attackers to display a deceptive website address through a crafted file URL. Focus allows web content to open file URLs through window.open(), while URIFixup hides the file scheme so the location bar shows embedded host-like text. A user must activate the crafted link; the resulting page can present a trusted-looking address and secure-lock indicator without loading that HTTPS origin.
